Leaving Toronto for warmer climes

Decompression down South!

This winter we decided to take Decompression south to the beautiful Bahamas and we weren't sorry! We made a three week trek across Lake Ontario on Sept 29, 2022 to Oswego NY, where we took our 68 foot mast off to go through the Oswego and Erie Canal system. We put our mast back up at Catskills, NY and entered the Hudson River, which took us past NYC and out to the Atlantic Ocean. Our final destination on this leg of the trip was Port Canaveral, FL where we hauled Decompression to ride out hurricane season and have our bottom repainted for salt water. On December 14, 2022 we relaunched her and sailed further down the coast to West Palm Beach, which was our jump off point to the Bahamas!

We crossed over to Lucaya on Grand Bahama arriving on December 31st just in time to celebrate New Year's Eve! From there we jumped off and made our way south to the Exuma chain of islands, first landing at Norman Cay and finally to George Town, Exuma.

Our travels took us through 31 locks, past 1,851 nautical miles, many overnight passages, lots of dolphin encounters and too many beautiful sunsets to count! Our journey has taken us swimming with the famous Bahamian pigs, feeding the inquisitive iguanas, past countless pristine beaches and anchorages to our final destination in George Town. Stay tuned for our next adventures as we make our way back to Toronto for the summer sailing and chartering season...
